Fibre Sculptures
Spool 1, 2, 3 are a reflection on my earliest introduction to fibre arts through Spool/Corking knitting. Taught by my grandmother, this small-scale action led to creating site-specific fibre sculptures. Inspired by nostalgia, wall hung sculpture, and the juxtaposition of materials, this sculpture highlights line, geometric forms, and repetitive hand work. As a site-specific fibre-sculpture, each opportunity to display the Spool series results in a new arrangement of spools. Whether tightly hung in the corner of a room or vertically extending towards the ceiling, we are being asked to consider the conversations between each individual piece, as a collective, and with the space itself.
